Sonamarg, meaning "Meadow of Gold," is a breathtaking hill station in Ganderbal district, Jammu and Kashmir, located at an altitude of 2,730 meters (8,957 feet). Nestled in the Himalayas along the Sindh River, it is famous for its lush green meadows, snow-capped peaks, and glaciers. Sonamarg serves as the gateway to Ladakh and is a popular base for treks to Thajiwas Glacier, Vishansar Lake, and Zoji La Pass. Adventure enthusiasts visit for trekking, river rafting, and camping, while winter transforms it into a snow paradise. The best time to visit is May to October, as heavy snowfall blocks roads in winter. It is 80 km from Srinagar and can be reached via a scenic drive through the Sindh Valley.
